Wow, I haven't posted in almost a year!
Good morning and Happy Second Civil War day to my fellow Americans!
I don't know who is still around but I know most of my social media interaction these days is on twitter (@ztimohls if you want to follow me).
And most of my tweets have to do with the fucking orange cheeto liar in chief who I DESPISE.
So I've pretty much been angry every day since November 2016 :/
BUT I'm looking forward to returning to London for LFCC. While there, I'll be seeing Ian McKellan in King Lear, and Aidan Turner in The Lieutenant of Inishmore.
My favorite guest at LFCC so far is Tom Welling! Mary McDonnell!! PEARL MACKIE \o/
I recently finished rewatching all of SGA (except Brainstorm, nothing will get me to watch that again).
I LOVE THAT SHOW. And I miss it.
And I never realized when it first aired, but the McKay/Keller thing makes no sense. He told he'd loved her 'for a long time' before they ever even dated! No wonder that ship didn't work for most people. And sorry, but McShep all the way, from DAY ONE.
Now I'm rewatching SG1 so I can see more SGA in the crossover episodes, lol (but I love SG1 too).
I'm also going to kind of revive hewlett_daily on LJ. It won't be daily, but I have new pics I can post.
Let's see. Last year I lost 2 of my older cats (Jazz was 18, Ben was 16). I gained two after that. Seven is my cousin's cat who I took in after she lost her home, and Methos is one of four stray kittens I rescued from the neighbor's feral female (who I also caught and had spayed). He is nuts, lol
Otherwise, my job is great, my family is great, I have no complaints other than the moron who is trying to destroy our country and the environment.
I'll try not to let so much time pass between posting!
HOW ARE ALL OF YOU??

LFCC
So, yes, I booked a last minute trip to LFCC when Benedict was added for Saturday.
I bought his Diamond Pass (#30!), which got me a guaranteed photo and autograph. I was also able to buy 3 more autographs.
That was one of the things I liked about LFCC, but like all cons, it had its issues.
I also got Andrew Robinson's autograph, one of the few DS9 actors I had not met.
Saturday morning we got in a huge line of people trying to gain entrance. We were NOT all in the door by 9:30 as promised, but I did get to Benedict's photo op in time for the DP, around 10 am.
He liked my shirt, and told me to 'have a great time today'. Very friendly, much different than the first time I saw him :)

Then it was off to meet Andrew Robinson.
After the scheduled lunch (really?!) was Benedict's panel. It was fine, no big revelations, and he was lovely. Loved his answer to someone asking about being a father: "It's great, and it's private". YES, STOP ASKING. What a wasted question.
Then I went to Benedict Wong's photo op:

And then to Benedict's autograph line, where we talked about Hamlet, as he had mentioned Andrew Scott's production during his panel, and I had seen it Friday night. Andrew's is very low key compared to Ben's high energy Hamlet, but both were great.
Then I had Matt Lucas' photo op (Nardole on Dr. Who):

Then off to wait for Mads Mikkelsen's photo op. During his photo op, they actually stopped Mads and had John Cleese come over to our photo area to finish since Cleese was running behind. We had to wait AN HOUR to get our Mads photos. UNBELIEVABLY RUDE to us and to Mads. Wow, I have NEVER had such a thing happen in 30 YEARS of going to cons.

He was lovely about it, and I got to take 2 pics since I blinked in the first one.
LFCC is run by the same people who do Sherlocked. They are idiots who cannot take any criticism.
I could not find ANY volunteers who knew ANYTHING. There were no signs telling you where the Main Stage was; I had to get another attendee to help me find it.
The layout was HORRIBLE. You had to wade through hundreds of people in the autograph lines to get to the main stage and 3 of the photo areas. SO STUPID.
But I got what I paid for and am so happy to meet Benedict again when he is more relaxed around his fans :)
I'm going to Birmingham for Sherlocked in October. No lead guests announced yet. Ridiculous. They'd better add some people soon. I for one do not want autos or photos with the 3 children from season 4 (it's not appropriate, imo). So that leaves Sian and a couple minor character actors.
We shall see.
Next up is WW Chicago for one day, to meet John Cusack and Paul Bettany, and then Dragon Con for 2 days, to meet the cast of Reign and see some Stargate and Star Trek people :)

Sherlocked USA
So even tho they didn't get any leads for this con, I went anyway. I wanted to see Amanda Abbington, who cancelled 2 days before the con :/ I did get to see Benedict's parents, who were lovely and really liked my Dr. Strange tshirt, lol.
My autographs:

My photo ops:
Saw a few very good panels but it was not a very busy con because I am not a teenager entertained by cosplay, karaoke, or dance parties :/
Lots of filler to make up for the lack of really good guests. I'm going to Birmingham in October, hoping they'll get Benedict. I'll be seeing Martin's new play while I'm there because I do not expect him to ever do a con. Fingers crossed Amanda is there!

The week of suck
So this week I found out that my optometrist and friend/former co worker died in March and I missed his memorial service.
The same night, my Aunt Elsie died as the result of a horrible fall.
On Tuesday, at the funeral home, I found out my younger brother lost his high paying tech job. He has mental health issues and is an alcoholic; I hope he can find another job, or I don't know what his wife, 3 sons, and 5 pets are going to do.
On Wednesday morning, I told my niece that they are allowed to play one religious song at my funeral, Ave Maria, but only the Chris Cornell version. He committed suicide that night :(
And to top off the week, last night I had to put down my 18 year old cat, Jazz, due to cancer. I am officially ailurophile6 again :(
This is the last picture I took of my pretty girl, only a week ago:

AND I left my cell phone at the vet's office so I have to back there today.
At least the Pens tied up the Eastern Conference Finals series by winning last night.
And next weekend I'll be in LA for the Sherlocked con, with no Sherlock, and no Watson for that matter :/
ETA: WHY the fuck do photo links not work on this site? This site sucks, which is why I am not deleting my live journal.

Chris Cornell
I am absolutely devastated by the death of Chris Cornell. He was my favorite male singer; I could listen to him sing all day. Euphoria Morning is my all time favorite CD.
I was lucky enough to hear him sing live with Audioslave.
Yesterday I was at my aunt's funeral, and they sang Ave Maria. I said to my niece, this is the only religious song you are allowed to play at my funeral, but it has to be the Chris Cornell version:
I am heartbroken that he seems to have committed suicide. WHY?!
I can't believe he's gone.

Game over, man.
Most of the recent celebrity deaths have not affected me too badly (except Carrie and Debbie) but this one really makes me sad :(
Loved this guy, especially in Aliens, my second favorite movie ever.

RIP, Hudson.

Annual Xmas gift rant!
So, it wasn't too awful this year, but of course there's always something!
First, the gift I ordered online for my father (gourmet cookies) was supposed to be delivered 12/23. They delivered it 12/17. He ate them all without even realizing it was a Christmas gift from me. JFC.
My Mom never thought to put them away where he wouldn't find them until closer to Christmas.
I didn't get anything from my mother, which is fine!
I got gift cards from my sister and her sons - 2 different types of movie gift cards. Really, do you think I'm going to spend $75 going to the movies?! Not unless Benedict Cumberbatch puts out a dozen films this year :/ Good thing gift cards don't expire.
My poor niece is under the impression I like chocolate covered espresso beans. I do not. Now I have 2 more cartons to go with the ones from last year that I never ate, lol. She did give me a Steelers charm bracelet, and after I put it on the Steelers pulled out a miraculous win \o/ so it's good luck, at least. And she gave me a Dr. Who compact mirror, which I will definitely use.
The worst though, was the gift from my brother and his boys. A matching Dr. Who necklace and earrings.
I NEVER WEAR NECKLACES. I don't even own one. I hate having stuff around my neck.
In addition, it's some kind of swirley thing with 'wibbley wobbley timey wimey' written on it. THAT'S 10. Everyone knows my favorite doctor is 11. I will NEVER wear these. Anyone want them?!
And so closes another crappy Christmas gift exchange, lol
Today I'm finally going to see Rogue One, and then to Panera with my gift card (from work) to get their Mediterranean veggie sandwich, which I love.
Hope you all got what you wanted for Christmas!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
to my US friends

By some quirk of fate, my beloved Steelers play tonight, Christmas Day and New Year's Day \o/
Now that's a holiday celebration!
What I'm grateful for this year is that I'm spending this holiday with not one person who voted for Trump! My family is of above average intelligence ;)

HOCKEY IS LIFE!
The Stanley Cup finals start tonight. My beloved Pens have home ice for the finals and game time is 8 pm.
LET'S GO PENS!!!

Win or lose, doesn't matter, because 6 months ago I didn't even think they'd make the playoffs. Now look at them go! Sullivan is the coach of the year, no matter who wins the actual award.
In other news, I loved Civil War and disagree with most of the criticisms of it. Tony was not too much of a dick, imo, and there was just the right amount of Spiderman (altho I still don't get why he had to be in the movie, but...) and the humor was much more natural than Avengers Ultron (or whatever it was called).
I also really enjoyed X Men Apocalypse. In fact, I think it's the best X Men movie yet. It didn't bore me at all, which is more than I can say for the other ones, lol. And Sophie Turner was terrific.
ETA: I didn't even realize Oscar Isaac was playing the villain until I saw the end credits. Wow, he was great, and so different from Poe!
I've spent the weekend Dad sitting, so I'm not really celebrating Memorial Day.
But this coming weekend is Philly Wizard World, where I'll be meeting Tom Hiddleston, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan (I am NOT a Chris Evans fan, sorry) as well as William B. Davis and hopefully Dominic Cooper (first ep of Preacher was awful, but I'll give it a few more goes).
And it's also Awesome Con! Going Sunday with my Peter Capaldi VIP Pass! I'll try to fit in other guests if I have time :)
I guess that's pretty good compensation for not having a US Sherlock Con, lol, or going to London.
Hope you're all having a great Monday!

The BEST time of the year!
I'm getting ready for the start of round 2 of the NHL playoffs.
The Pens are playing the Caps; tonight is game one. This is the first time in a while that I've felt confident that the Pens have a real chance at the Stanley Cup, and their real challenge starts tonight \o/
I LOVE HOCKEY PLAYOFFS!
In other news. I've decided to take a step back from the Sherlock fandom. The setlock pics I've seen are driving me nuts; I DO NOT WANT the Watson family hour. Way TOO MUCH TIME is being devoted to the baby and Mary and I know I'm going to hate season four. In addition, the US Sherlock con has basically been abandoned by SM and ME. They have lied to us for over a year now, and I'm done waiting.
I'm looking forward to my next con in June, WW Philly, to meet Tom Hiddleston. AND we're going on a road trip that Sunday to Awesome Con in DC to meet Peter Capaldi!!
Should be a great weekend.
I'm going to Shore Leave in July, Dragon Con and Chicago SG in Sept. DC added Jack Gleeson (Joffery from GOT) and Jason Isaacs!
I watched the first episode of The Night Manager with Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie. IT'S FANTASTIC. Can't wait to meet Tom!
Work is going extremely well. Still need some work on the house, but it's coming along nicely.
How are all of you?!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
I realized I'd never posted about the movie!
My mom dragged me to see A New Hope when I was 13; I thought I'd hate it, but I ended up loving it (and this is where my love of sci fi really started, Star Trek TOS reruns notwithstanding).
Seeing TFA took me right back to 1977!
I LOVED IT! I've seen it 3 times and hope to see it again soon. Can't wait for the Blu Ray release.
Rey and Finn were awesome. Han and Chewie were awesome.
My only complaint was not enough Luke, so I'm really looking forward to the next one.
What did you all think?!
