Why disappointed?

(Granted, I know little to none about his acting credentials. I haven't seen him in action other than World War Z...can't even remember him well from his past ventures into Who and Torchwood.)

I think he's a fine actor. He was great in TW CoE.

But I wanted someone younger (and don't tell me that's rude, I'm sick of hearing that, lol, I'm entitled to my opinion).

I will give it a chance, but I don't think I will be watching much after the regeneration.

Maybe underwhelmed is a better description of my feelings. I am having a hard time accepting that Matt Smith is leaving, as well, lol.

Ah, gotcha. I'm always a fan of going older (I thought they might do that when Ten regenerated, but they went younger then and I love Matt). I'm interested to see where he takes the role, especially since the Doctor regenerated younger for the past four regenerations, so suddenly he's back in an older body.

I don't know him so I'm neither happy nor disappointed. But then, I don't think I've known any of the Doctors, and I've liked all the current regenerations so far.

I know him from Torchwood, which is the same universe as Dr. Who, so it's kind of strange casting. He was fantastic in TW.

I just really like the dynamic and energy of Tennant and Smith and he just doesn't bring the same vibe. Plus he's older than what I would have preferred (although he's only a few years older than me, lol).

I'm not happy, I'm not devasted, I'm just underwhelmed by this choice. I'll watch the regeneration and we'll see after that...

I think it's always hard to know what a different actor will bring to the role. I remember a lot of people weren't happy about Matt Smith, and I enjoyed him a lot (not as much as Tennant, but that was a pretty big Police Box to fill. LOL)

I agree. I actually am indifferent to Tennant and adore Matt Smith. That doesn't mean I didn't like the Tennant years.

I'll give 12 a chance but he will have to be very impressive to make me stop missing Matt, lol.

I know what you mean about the disappointment. The actor just seems so underwhelming, lacking the charisma needed for this role. Perhaps, when he's wearing the suit and in the Tardis, I might feel differently. 'shrugs'

Yeah, I know he's a good actor (see TW CoE) but his energy and vibe just seem wrong for the doctor.

TBH I think he's too old (he's my age!)and the Clara/Doctor shippers are probably having an aneurysm, lol. He's almost old enough to be her grandfather!

I will watch and see but I have a feeling I won't continue to after the regeneration :(

I wasn't sure about David or Matt when they were announced either, but then they were both fantastic. It does seem a big leap in the age range I know but I'm hoping it'll make for some interesting darker stories maybe.

I read this on Tumblr which made me smile:

So I don't know, I suppose I'm a wait and see kind of gal! With fingers crossed. XD

The thing with me is not physical appearance. I don't think 9, 10 or 11 are all that attractive. I just really enjoy their performances, esp Matt as 11.

This guy just doesn't bring the same energy and vibe and for me it is disappointing. I'll watch, and see, of course, but he was not what I was expecting, at all.

Just out of curiosity, did you join the fandom with Nine? I ask because I started watching back in the eighties, and was actually uncomfortable with how young Matt Smith was. I avoided watching him for a year, before, of course, falling madly in love with him. Go figure.

I don't know any of the new guy's work, so I'm keeping an open mind. That doesn't mean I won't miss Matt like crazy though. :(

I watched the earlier versions growing up and never could get into it...it was silly and campy. I resisted NuWho for YEARS because I didn't like the earlier version, until it came on Netflix and then I watched all of it...and I came to adore Matt.

Peter Capaldi was in TW CoE and was great. But I can't see him as the doctor, not after 9, 10 and 11.

Part of it does have to do with not wanting Matt to leave, so I'll watch and see, but I don't think it will ever be the same for me :(

For me, the fact of him being in TW:CoE is exactly why I'm leery of him being the Doctor, because he was so creepy on the former. I think it will take me a while to look at him and think "Doctor" and not "my skin is crawling go AWAY."

He will never replace Matt for me, and I just can't see him as the doctor. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.
